Ilija Kolarac Milosavljević
1789. Kolari near Smederevo - 06.10.1878. Belgrade
Merchant, endower of foundation and Serbian philanthropist. He helped the printing of books, magazines and the schooling of pupils in Serbia and Vojvodina. He was a financial advisor of Mihailo Obrenović and founder of the Conservative Club. By his will he left 1 million dinars for the establishment of Kolarac National University. His will was followed and in 1932 the building of Kolarac was erected, which is the focal point of cultural and musical life of Belgrade.
Initially he was buried in Tašmajdan Cemetery and he was then interred at the New Cemetery where a monumental tomb was built for him.
He is buried at the New Cemetery in the Passage of the Greats, grave 12, row I.
