Following the trail of legendary WWI military commanders and heroes – Association “Kajmakčalan”

Honoring the request of the Association for Fostering and Preservation of Cultural Heritage "Kajmakčalan", the visit to the New Cemetery in Belgrade, including final resting places and memorials of the legendary WWI military commanders and heroes with expert guidance of our colleague, art historian Violeta Obrenović, was organized on November 25, 2018.

During this stroll, devoted to the heroes of the Great War, the members of the Association were able to see the graves of legendary WWI Serbian military commanders, heroes and heroines: Field Marshal Živojin Mišić, Field Marshal Radomir Putnik, Field Marshal Petar Bojović, Major Vojislav Tankosić, heroine Milunka Savić and many others, hear the stories about their lives and remember their heroic deeds. The members of the Association, were also introduced to the history and artistic value of one of the largest WWI memorials erected in Serbia at that time - Memorial Ossuary of Belgrade Defenders 1914 - 1918 and were able to visit the crypt beneath the monument.

"Kajmakačalan" is a unique Citizens' Association, which among other heritage fostering activities is involved in search for and maintenance of Serbian WWI graves country, especially in the area of former Salonica front line.
